Green Day Working With 'Nevermind' Producer On New Album

The punksters' follow up to 2004's 'American Idiot' is being produced by Butch Vig. Well, according to Shirley Manson anyway.

The much-awaited eighth studio album from Green Day was rumoured for a release sometime this year, however only a side-project by the name of Foxboro Hot Tubs - which features all three Green Day members - released a debut record.

But ex-Garbage singer Shirley Manson told US chat show Last Call With Carson Daly she tried to book former Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins producer Butch Vig to work on her new album, though he was busy working with the California rock stars.

She said: "I don't know, to be honest. We're sort of doing our different things. I'm doing the TV show (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Butch is producing Green Day, so he's busy, so we'll see."

It is as yet unclear what role long-time producer Rob Cavallo will have on the new record.
