Oasis New Album Almost Named After Spice Girls' Tune

added 04 July 2008 at 11.06

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he nearly called the new Oasis album 'Bag It Up', until his girlfriend pointed out it was a former Spice Girl's track name. Plus, the band prepare for a Lifetime Achievement Award this afternoon (July 4)

Speaking to MOJO, Gallagher explained that he had originally intended to call the new Oasis album - which is now titled 'Dig Out Your Soul' - 'Bag It Up'.

Those plans were soon scuppered when his girlfriend Sara McDonald pointed out that its also the name of a Geri Halliwell track.

Gallagher explained, "The missus goes 'Bag It Up? Isn't that a song by Geri Halliwell?'. I was like, 'You've ruined my entire fucking year'."

We can expect the new Oasis album to hit our shelves on October 6, preceded by single 'The Shock Of The Lightning' on September 29.

Meanshile Oasis will be further honoured this afternoon with a Silver Clef Award, previously won by Paul Weller and U2 amongst others.

The Fratellis, Lily Allen and Meatloaf all on the guest list for the ceremony, which is being held at London's Park Lane Hilton, and set to raise money for music therapy charity Nordoff-Robbins.
