Last night marked South's first stop on their 2008 North American trek. The British trio is touring in support of their forthcoming senior release, You Are Here. While the evening focused on the aforementioned LP, South found time to integrate a slew of favorites from earlier efforts (most notably 'Colours In Waves' & 'Shallow') throughout their 60 minute set. While watching Verve's main stage set last night we found ourselves wondering something we don't usually wonder: What would it be like to live inside the head of Richard Ashcroft for a day? The lanky, impeccably cheekboned vocalist -- who can easily pull off wearing a shirt opened to the bottom two buttons, all the better to make room for his gem-encrusted cross -- has such an obvious god complex (does god swagger?), but manages to channel it in a way that you don't hate him. Following a brief but well-earned winter hibernation, Sigur Ramp;oacute;s have brushed the crumbs from the corners of their eyes, thrown their bows into their guitar cases, and lined up a summer tour. The jaunt finds the band hitting many a festival, first in North America and then around Europe. But there are quite a few theater dates tucked away in there as well, just in case you'd like to see Sigur Ramp;oacute;s making their gigantic noises in slightly tinier spaces.
