According to a brief discussion with Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett posted over at NME, My Bloody Valentine are coming to America. Coachella's April date was too soon, which is why they're debuting with summer festival shows at Roskilde, ya, in Paris, and at a spattering of ATP-sponsored gigs. And the US of A? To quote Tollett: "Don't worry--they'll come to America." Vague, but forceful. As far as the rumors that original drummer Colm O'Ciosoig wasn't going to take part in the reunion? The folks who started the rumor have taken it back. More on NME

4 Vote(s)

Entitled Third, the album will be released April 14 on Island Records. (Since that's a Monday, we assume there will be a different U.S. release date.)

2 Vote(s)

Judging from the Coachella '08 comments, folks are disappointed at this year's lineup. Stay strong concert goers, you may have less reason to weep: The aforementioned rumors of a Coachella East are true, though this puppy, housed at Jersey City's Liberty State Park, will be called All Points West Music & Arts Festival because, historically, "immigrants who came to Ellis Island would go to the Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal, which is still on the park's grounds, then board trains for 'all points west.'" Now you know! Sign up for updates at the official site, though they haven't said much yet, aside from the dates (8/8-8/10). Also, no camping allowed.
The Australian-born actor, who made his way into our little tag cloud recently via his portrayal of Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes's I'm Not There, was found dead in his Mary-Kate Olsen's SoHo apartment at 3:35PM today. Pills were near his body, but police suspect no foul play. (NYT now says "signs point to suicide.") The Dylan biopic wasn't Heath's only music-related project: Ledger had directed videos for Ben Harper ("Morning Yearning") and Australian artist N'Fa ("Seduction Is Evil"), and apparently teamed with Harper to start a record label. We last saw him at the I'm Not There concert (pictured) at Beacon Theater in November, introducing acts and paying homage to Todd Haynes and Robert Zimmerman. Ledger, who plays the Joker in the forthcoming Batman sequel The Dark Knight, is survived by his two-year-old daughter Matilda Rose (whom he had with actress and fiancee Michelle Williams). Heath was 28. Condolences all around. More on New York Times

2 Vote(s)

For starters, it's no longer merely an interweb entity. When we last touched base with Godrich-- just before the first episode's web premiere in December 2006-- he expressed unease at the possibility of licensing his series to television. As Godrich said then, amp;quot;They were quite prepared to put it out on TV if we would take a sponsor, like a mobile phone company or whatnot, and I was just like, 'No fucking way, that's just not the point at all.' The idea is to be independent-- to have no agenda...it's got to be neutral.amp;quot;

2 Vote(s)

NY media's major television infatuation this year has been, justly, The Wire (write your senator, this show deserves an Emmy etc.), but by our count, there's still plenty of people losing their shit over LOST. Including those on A Silver Mt. Zion (and, consequently, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) message boards, actually, after hearing a snippet from ASMZ track "Tho You Are Gone I Still Often Walk W/You" in the new commercial for the upcoming Season Four because, as Pitchfork reports, ASMZ's Constellation Records "maintained an ardent anti-corporate ethos over the years." We're here to help those complaining: consider it less "selling out" and more "being a part of the greatest show like ever." Damn. Flash forward my ass to January 28th, you know? Anyway if you're looking for ways to while away your time until your big LOST season premiere party, you could fall into J.J. Abrams Cloverfieldesque world of virtual viral marketing. For one there are billboards along roads advertising Oceanic Airlines, pointing people to the very realistic flyoceanic.com (a marketing campaign so viral it forgot to be marketing). Or you could just help Find815. OK, something more substantial, then. No proper spoilers here (unless you're not up to date through the present date of mindfuckery), but Enterintament Weekly has a surprisingly candid interview with Matthew Fox (that is, Jack) about Season Four as this month's cover piece.
The (semi-reliable) Daily Star claims: *COLDPLAY is the next big-name act expected to join the mounting EMI exodus. The quartet's upcoming fourth album could be their last proper studio effort for the struggling label, who has seen Sir Paul McCartney and Radiohead leave in the past year. Chris Martin & co. can fulfill their current five-album deal with EMI/Parlophone by issuing a Best Of collection in '09, thus making the act free agents. A source close to the band said: "There's so much uncertainty in the record industry right now. The boys don't necessarily need a label anymore. They aren't even considering putting pen to paper on any type of new contract until they see what happens."*MP3: Coldplay - Clocks

2 Vote(s)
