The Penultimate act of the Tripwire-curated day at the Levis/FADER Fort was filled with a pleasant surprise of new material from Canadian rockers The Stills. While they started and finished with familiar tracks ("Lola Stars and Stripes," "In The Beginning"), the cream filling was nothing but new material

We're hearing the Stills are close to releasing their third LP, which is perfect timing to capitalize on the buzz from their set at Rachael Ray's indie rock SXSW showcase (go ahead and make fun of it, music bloggers, Rachael has five jobs so she doesn't have time to care about your snark). That would make "Snake-Charming The Masses" the first single and the first video from the album that is yet to be named. It's a sort of bleak and dire title, and so a bleak and dire tune (rimclicks, toms, and a pedal point march). Guess the extended shot of a burning house falls into that "bleak" category,

There's a lot of romance surrounding Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Imagine, for a moment, that New Mexico governor Bill Richardson was the candidate lodged in a late winter dogfight with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Would Albuquerque natives the Shins be playing rallies prior to the March 4 primary in Ohio? My guess is no.

Hot on the heels of Oscar night, we have the aforementioned soundtrack tune from LCD Soundsystem (of Your Favorite Album Of 2007, fame), which was commissioned for the forthcoming math-kids-counting-cards-in-Vegas Robert Luketic-directed film 21 starring Kevin Spacey (as a math prof), Kate Bosworth (as a "sexy" math teamer), Laurence Fishburne (the casino's enforcer), etc. The instrumental section sorta reminds us of Throbbing Gristle's "Hot On The Heels Of Love," so our opening cliché isn't entirely accidental.
Digital Spy reports: *Oasis and Blur have reportedly been lined up to appear in a Britpop special of The Weakest Link. The show's bosses have contacted Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn and Alex James to appear in the episode of the gameshow, according to the Daily Star. "If we can pull this off it would be unbelievable," commented a BBC source. "Noel admits he’s a Weakest Link fan." Other stars that bosses want to have on the show include Jarvis Cocker, Elastica's Justine Frischmann, Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield & Suede's Brett Anderson.*MP3: Oasis - Wonderwall

While we're talking Alison ... holy Goldfrapp. The new tune posted at UK vets Saint Etienne's MySpace grooves an airy shuffle reminiscent in spirit to recently everywhere "A&E." OK, just ignore that tune's more dramatic finale -- this one takes us to the south side of the dance floor and stays put, bubbling with a softcore dance groove that doesn't try to reach toward Alison's greater vocal heights. Nope, Sarah Cracknell keeps it steady, dreamy for the duration. The song, which is the title track for the band's documentary on London's Royal Festival Hall, could originally be found as a 7" acc
