According to a brief discussion with Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett posted over at NME, My Bloody Valentine are coming to America. Coachella's April date was too soon, which is why they're debuting with summer festival shows at Roskilde, Øya, in Paris, and at a spattering of ATP-sponsored gigs. And the US of A? To quote Tollett: "Don't worry--they'll come to America." Vague, but forceful. As far as the rumors that original drummer Colm O'Ciosoig wasn't going to take part in the reunion? The folks who started the rumor have taken it back. More on NME »
amp;quot;Three chords good, two chords better, one chord best,amp;quot; Pete amp;quot;Sonic Boomamp;quot; Kember has been known to mutter. The former Spacemen 3 guitarist and current Spectrum mastermind is heading out with a full Spectrum but a single chord on a North American tour that kicks off later this week. Care to bask in all the nuance Sonic Boom can muster within the key of C or whatever? You know where to go.

It's taken Portishead over ten years to craft their follow-up to 1997's Portishead, but probably not more than a couple minutes to decide on a name for the thing. Entitled Third, the album will be released April 14 on Island Records. (Since that's a Monday, we assume there will be a different U.S. release date.)

Judging from the Coachella '08 comments, folks are disappointed at this year's lineup. Stay strong concert goers, you may have less reason to weep: The aforementioned rumors of a Coachella East are true, though this puppy, housed at Jersey City's Liberty State Park, will be called All Points West Music & Arts Festival because, historically, "immigrants who came to Ellis Island would go to the Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal, which is still on the park's grounds, then board trains for 'all points west.'" Now you know! Sign up for updates at the official site, though they haven't said

Black Mountain mainman Steve McBean here finds more room for the rest of the band's burgeoning personalities, and the resulting record raises the stakes of the debut considerably, leaving the band's musical talents to play catchup with their new material's epic-sized dimensions.

The Australian-born actor, who made his way into our little tag cloud recently via his portrayal of Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes's I'm Not There, was found dead in his Mary-Kate Olsen's SoHo apartment at 3:35PM today. Pills were near his body, but police suspect no foul play. (NYT now says "signs point to suicide.") The Dylan biopic wasn't Heath's only music-related project: Ledger had directed videos for Ben Harper ("Morning Yearning") and Australian artist N'Fa ("Seduction Is Evil"), and apparently teamed with Harper to start a record label. We last saw him at the I'm Not There concert (picture

For starters, it's no longer merely an interweb entity. When we last touched base with Godrich-- just before the first episode's web premiere in December 2006-- he expressed unease at the possibility of licensing his series to television. As Godrich said then, amp;quot;They were quite prepared to put it out on TV if we would take a sponsor, like a mobile phone company or whatnot, and I was just like, 'No fucking way, that's just not the point at all.' The idea is to be independent-- to have no agenda...it's got to be neutral.amp;quot;

Remember that mess at the beginning of the year, when the Washington Post interpreted an RIAA legal brief as saying the agency's official position is that ripping CDs for personal use is illegal? Well the RIAA's president took to NPR to try to deny it, but Wired ain't buying -- and they have "two very clear pieces of evidence" to prove that the RIAA prez was lying. NY media's major television infatuation this year has been, justly, The Wire (write your senator, this show deserves an Emmy etc.), but by our count, there's still plenty of people losing their shit over LOST. Including those on A Silver Mt. Zion (and, consequently, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) message boards, actually, after hearing a snippet from ASMZ track "Tho You Are Gone I Still Often Walk W/You" in the new commercial for the upcoming Season Four because, as Pitchfork reports, ASMZ's Constellation Records "maintained an ardent anti-corporate ethos over the years." We're here to help tho
